I recently registered my first domain name. Since brianwells.com was already taken, I picked brian-wells.com instead. If I think of something more clever, I’ll register that as well.
The first benefit of having my own domain name is that it provides an easy reference for accessing this web site thanks to URL forwarding. The second benefit is that I now have something solid for identifying my applications and other bundles – I now can use a real reverse-ordered domain name prefix for the identifiers. :-)
I registered the domain name through a reseller, Namecheap.com. It was inexpensive and so far their web interface seems to work well for me.
